During the week of July 18th – 25th the Boy Scouts of Troop 804 joined with some members of Troop 599 to take a week-long trip down the Suwanee River!
Present for the 50 mile canoe journey were John Osterhout, Cj Long, Mason Webb, Kaj Eckhardt, Josh Osterhout, Sean Miller, Jesse Pescatore, Jake Pescatore, Mark Pescatore, Sam Eckhardt, Gary Osterhout, and Troy Eckhardt. The trip began at the Highway 6 bridge and ended at the Spirit of Suwanee River Outpost, 50 miles away. All food and supplies needed were carried by canoe or portaged, and there was no vehicular support at any time during the trip. Meals were individually prepared in various ways including propane backpacking stoves and homemade wood-burning stoves.
The highlights of the trip were the many rope swings we found along the way down river, some allowing the riders to achieve heights of 20 feet above the surface of the river, not to mention the joy of camaraderie with fellow scouts and the solitude of not seeing many outsiders throughout the trip.
