Cub Scout Outings – Alternatives to Day Camp
Posted by Scoutmaster on March 30, 2010 at 6:02 pm
Unfortunately, the DeLand day camp has been canceled. There is the option of attending the Deltona day camp, which is scheduled to take place the week before DeLand’s was to take place (which would be 6/21/2010 – 6/25/2010). I do not know where this will be held, and it’s not even showing up on either the district or the council calendars.
There are a few cub scout camps going on at La-No-Che this spring:
Spring to Spring, 4/9/2010-4/11/2010
Fun With Son, 4/16/2010-4/18/2010
I see no sign up sheets or information at either website about these either.
How about holding our music-themed family camp-out on 5/28/2010-5/30/2010? Mr. Sam will be in Alaska at that time. Are there any other conflicts?
Let’s discuss and plan in the comments.

It should be noted that the Fun With Son and Spring To Spring camp-outs are on two consecutive weekends. Maybe we should pick one and go as a group.

fyi: http://www.camplanoche.com/ has links to both with online registration…
the ridgway’s would prefer the earlier options as we have plans for most of the day on the 17th…
Thank you Mr. Ridgway!
The Eckhardts would prefer the earlier dates as well. We too have a thing on the 17th.
Do we want to come up with our own version of day camp? Do we want to go to Deltona’s?
There is now a $5 savings per person if we register online for the La-No-Che camps.
we’re in – i say lets go for it… give the go tonight?
On the day camp – will get back…
Earlier camp, Spring to Spring, 4/9-4/11, announce tonight? I suppose that’s the plan, then. I’m a little disappointed with the lack of online commentary, but no one said we needed a quorum to vote, right?
So let’s announce it as the will of the people tonight.
I don’t have a problem with driving to Deltona for Day Camp, especially since the Deltona people have been driving to camp in DeLand for years. Unfortunately, I can’t offer to carry more than one extra Cub Scout with me because my car is full with all of my children. I think the weekend outings are fun, but it doesn’t seem to me that they quite replace the day camp experience. That said, my problem with Day Camp is just that it is too hot! I think it is too much for many of the younger children and some of the adults to be outside all day in the heat. Is it showing a lack of Scout Spirit to pull out of Day Camp as a pack? I want to be supportive of District events, but I am not going to volunteer this year because Katie is too little.
Mrs. Jennifer, I agree with you, even though I’m not a big fan of Deltona.
May 28-30 sounds fine for the music-themed family campout. We’ll have to leave early because we’re already signed up to work children’s church on the 30th, but that’s the only conflict.
As for daycamp, I don’t feel like it’s showing a lack of scout spirit to say we are pulling out as a pack. There are packs in deltona that have also pulled out because of the way things are being handled. District canceled our daycamp without any form of communication between themselves and those who were already signed up to help lead the camp. To me, that shows a lack of caring and courtesy on their part. Deland was a central location for Tuscarora (West Volusia) District. Deltona is not.
Just my thoughts.
i for one say “no day camp without representation”
